The Lip Sync Battle

On Friday, May 6th, students gathered in the cafe for the second Lip Sync battle of the year. The event (organized by Spirit and Social) was the culmination of Spirit Week, a week of fun activities including advisory games, dress-up days and a coin drive. Students and teachers lip synced to some of their favorite songs, and judges picked a winner at the end. The atmosphere was one of anticipation and excitement. This battle is exactly what the students had

been waiting for. A video of the event is available at the end of the article.

The battle started off with Josh R. and Henry P. performing “Defying Gravity” from the musical Wicked. This passionate performance had an emphasis on the facial expressions of the characters. The emotion was captured throughout Josh and Henry’s rendition of the song, particularly in the ending.

There was a third performance scheduled, but it had to be cut at the last minute due to content that was deemed inappropriate.

The other performance consisted of Osher L., George O., Justin S., Ashley R., and Max D. performing “The Room Where It Happens” from the Broadway musical Hamilton. This performance required more characters and required significant coordination. There was an emphasis on choreography, with one of the characters jumping up onto a table at one point (something that led to a round of applause from the student body). There was a third performance scheduled, but it had to be cut at the last minute due to

content that was deemed inappropriate.

Both performances were received well and entertained the crowd while they were eating. However, there could only be one winner, and it is hard to go wrong with any Hamilton song. “The Room Where It Happens” was chosen for first place, with “Defying Gravity” the runner-up. “The Room Where It Happens” may be the official winner, but you can judge for yourself. Who won?
